Made Life Simple
Available on Quetzalcoatl
LP/CD, She Has No Control
7", Shreds Volume 1 - Best
Of The American Underground compilation, You
Think You're Cool CD
She went out on Friday night,
She didn't come home 'til it was light,
She spent six hours just walking around,
She just knows it was so cruel,
She knows she has no control,
She knows she can’t think about tomorrow
"He didn't see what his hurt would do to me,
He didn't see what his hurt would do to me"
She was from a small town where,
Knowing neighbours made life simple,
She told her mom, "I swear I'll write",
She just knows it was so cruel,
She knows Oakland is not her home,
She knows she can’t think about tomorrow
"He didn't see what his hurt would do to me,
He didn't see what his hurt would do to me"
She was from a small town in Nebraska,
The smell of grass and cinnamon in cider,
I have some news for your mother,
Anna won't be coming home for Christmas

Marge Schott
Available on Prophylaxis LP/CD,
Soul Patch And Cho Chos
CD (alternate version)
All the faces are dressed up in blue,
And there's not a lot I can do,
Conspiracy, 1973,
At the age of 32,
All the dreams I had, all the visions that I had up until then,
Turned into dust and the anonymity that comes with them
Inside there is silver and gold,
Marge Schott can't get in there,
Superman can't survive the Dragon's stare
Your colors and flags on a screen,
Turn into something obscene,
The hero died less than dignified,
At the hands of the all-white machine,
Every dream I had, every vision that I had up until then,
Vanished into stars and the anonymity that comes with them
Inside there is silver and gold,
Marge Schott can't get in there,
Superman can't survive the Dragon's stare
All of what I heard from the ads in the magazines and the T.V.,
Create a new image that I have to take personally
Inside there is silver and gold,
Marge Schott can't get in there,
Superman can't survive the Dragon's stare

Marie Provost
Available on 3 Chord Rocket
Science compilation (as Mary Provost), Ivy
League College 7", Nostalgic
For Nothing singles collection LP/CD (as Mary Provost).
Originally by Nick Lowe from his Bowi EP (Stiff Records,
1977). There are a lot of Internet references to both spellings but 'Marie'
is much more common and fits the song properly.
Marie Provost did not look her best,
The day the cops broke into her lonely nest,
From the cheap hotels up on Hollywood West,
July 29
She'd been lying there for two or three weeks,
The neighbours said they'd never heard a squeak,
But hungry eyes that cannot speak,
Said even dogs have got to eat
She was a winner that became a dog's dinner,
She never meant that much to me,
Whoah, poor Marie
Marie Provost was a movie queen,
Mysterious angel of the silent screen,
And from the film into a young man's dream,
When Marie crossed that silent screen,
She came out west from old New York,
But when the talkies came she just couldn't cope,
Her public said "Marie take a walk,
All the way back to New York"
She was a winner that became a dog's dinner,
She never meant that much to me,
Now I see, poor Marie
Those quaalude bombs didn't help her sleep,
As the nights grew long, the days grew bleak,
It's all downhill when you've passed your peak,
Marie got ready for that last big sleep
The cops broke in and they looked all around,
Throwing up everywhere at what they found,
The handywork of the little dachshunds,
The hungry little dachshunds
She was a winner that became a dog's dinner,
She never meant that much to me,
Now I see, poor Marie,
Poor Marie,
Poor Marie,
Poor, poor Marie,
Poor, poor Marie

Mary's Moving Out
Available on Altamont 99 singles
collection CD, Racked 7"
Mary's moving out today, I can't say that I blame her,
How could she survive in the house of ageing and self-loathing?
Mary's moving out today and Chuck is gonna help her,
It's not as if I won't see either of them again
Just another in a series,
In a series of disgruntled room-mates
I come home,
I watch my videos and television,
I sit here and disappear in a headmaster raphsody,
I go down to Rainbow and buy nothing for no-one,
Killing time deadens minds,
Good times seem so far behind
Just another in a series,
In a series of disgruntled room-mates

Mature
Shower Curtains
Available on Split album
with Storm The Tower
She leaves the window open,
She leaves the door unlocked,
She leaves the porch light on,
She thinks that it’s enough
She wants mature curtains,
To keep her bathroom dry,
She thinks I think about it,
She’s thinking something right
I’ll cut you close,
I’ll cut you off,
‘Cos you can’t live without it,
You’re making notes above your nose,
So you can dream about it,
When I’m done and had enough,
You will think about it,
You will imagine all your luck,
And start to live around it
I sleep an inch above the floor,
The insects make it past my door,
They watch me sleep, they watch me snore,
Dream of less - dream of more
She is a drink I’ve had before,
At the Honky Death liquor store,
On the California shore,
I’m rotten to my core
I’ll cut you close,
I’ll cut you off,
‘Cos you can’t live without it,
You’re making notes above your nose,
So you can dream about it,
When I’m done and had enough,
You will think about it,
You will imagine all your luck,
And start to live around it

Misery
Available on Amarillo, Azul
Y Verde 7", Camels,
Spilled Corona And The Sound Of Mariachi Bands singles collection
LP/CD, Half And Half 7",
This Is Fucked, This
Is Shit split 7"
Again, tonight I went to a bar with a friend,
Again, totally drunk holding on to this pen,
I see the whole world and its staring back at me,
Sitting here in misery, wondering what is wrong with me
Today, I'm so bored I think I'll sleep my life away,
Today, apathy stifles what I wanted to say,
I see the whole world and what a sorry place to be,
Sitting here in misery, drowning in society
Today, everyone suffered in the usual way,
Today, we leave uneasy because there's no escape,
I see the whole world and the possibility,
Sitting here in misery, no place that Id rather be,
Sitting here in misery, no place that Id rather be

Mistake/Missed
Available on Nostalgic
For Nothing singles collection LP/CD, Split
7" with Serpico
I always fall in love with the wrong character,
I always fall for the one who dies,
Watch it over again,
Watch for my mistake,
What could I have missed again?
I always fall in love with the wrong character,
I always fall for the one that’s despised,
Watch it over again,
Watch for my mistake,
What could I have missed again?

Mr Backrub
Available on Arbor Vitae LP/CD
He was the biggest sleaze in the office,
Years later he'd be known as Mr. Backrub,
He'd melt you with his mini-pony tail and goatee,
And kill you with his "in touch with my feelings" gaze
He makes me sick,
He gives me creeps,
I hope he stays away from me, from me,
He makes me sick,
He gives me creeps,
I hope he stays away
On a drunk and desperate night,
My friend went home with him,
None of us could believe it,
"He's really okay,
It was just a lay,
He's aware,
At least someone cares",
My intelligence insulted
He makes me sick,
He gives me creeps,
I hope he stays away from me, from me,
He makes me sick,
He gives me creeps,
I hope he stays away
I'm sure he's cruising in his Jeep Cherokee,
In retrospect it doesn't mean that much to me

My Favorite Place
Available on Cat Food LP/CD (2nd
alternate version), My Favorite
Place 7", My Favourite
Place 7"/CDEP (alternate version), Nostalgic
For Nothing singles collection LP/CD, The
Ecstasy Of Communication CD, Rejected
Volume 2 compilation (live version), You
Think You're Cool CD. The 2nd alternate version has additional vocals
from Harriet Scott.
Floyd calls me on the phone,
And I usually don't mind if he won't leave me alone,
But today has been a busy day if there is such a thing anyway,
My cats look bored,
They're hunting down flies on the kitchen floor,
The neighborhood isn't my favourite place any more
Maybe if I cut my hair,
I can fall into a new undiscovered despair,
I haven't got anything clean today to wear
One plus one - my cats look bored,
Two plus two - the kitchen floor,
Three plus three - my favourite place,
Four plus four - not any more
I've been gone for two months,
I'm out of touch, out of time, out of everyone,
Now I know that a weekend in Manilla is not much fun
Now I'm back at home,
But I can't remember when I last felt so alone,
Misery calls every minute on the telephone
One plus one - been gone two months,
Two plus two - I'm out of touch,
Three plus three - my VJ's gone,
Four plus four - not very fun
I may be home,
But if you'd please leave your message at the sound of the tone,
Excuse me for my fear of the telephone
My house, my tomb,
I can't even write a song about sitting in my room,
There's no room to sit, I just wait in apprehensive gloom
One plus one - I may be home,
Two plus two - the sound, the tone,
Three plus three - excuse my fear,
Four plus four - the telephone
One plus one - I may be home,
Two plus two - the sound, the tone,
Three plus three - excuse my fear,
Four plus four, four, four
One plus one - I may be home,
Two plus two - the sound, the tone,
Three plus three - excuse my fear,
Four plus four - the telephone

My Lie
Available on Whorehouse:
Songs And Stories LP/CD
Now it's good-bye,
Not much to declare,
This good-bye,
It's all mine
The feelings you find,
Were from a better time,
Affectionate memories,
I keep in my mind
So now good-bye,
It's my lie,
This good-bye,
It's my lie
