From Lance's original J Church website: "I don't know,
I just have a thing about CDEPs. I loved collecting all the Pixies
CDEPs and thought it would be a good idea for us to do one to promote
our upcoming album. We only did 1,000 copies and they sold out very
quickly. The first two tracks were from the Quetzalcoatl
album, the others were all recorded live at Gilman. We played two
gigs that night and my throat was fucked. Here's a big secret: Gardner
overdubbed the bass on In Vain. My throat was really
fried on that one.
"That's Baudelaire on the cover, stolen from a postcard.
The photo on the inside of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate
was also used for the front of our first t-shirt. The back of the
shirt was Spider Man."
As related by In Vain, Starkweather and Fugate
were a young couple who achieved infamy in 1958 by killing 11 people.
