From Lance's original J Church website: "Another box set.
Not much of a theme this time around other than bands from the West
Coast. I think there were five singles. Well it's a strange collection
of bands I guess. I think we've only played with Samiam and Tilt
of the bunch. At any rate, our song was recorded at the same time
as the My
Favorite Place 7". It's partly a friendly joke on Rocket
From The Crypt and the myriad of San Diego bands that try to copy
the John Reese sound. We really did our best to make a San Diego
sounding song. But it's also about the horror of going to a guitar
centre and having to be surrounded by all the losers. Especially
the ones that work there with the mullet haircuts and the leather
ties. A pretty a-typical sounding song for us."
This was originally issued as a limited-edition 5x7" box set
which paired up J Church and Fluf, Alcohol Funnycar and Treepeople,
Face To Face and Down By Law, Seaweed and The Meices, and Samiam
and Tilt. It was later re-released as an easier-to-handle CD with
the running order above.
The picture above left is on the front of the box set and on the
CD; in case you're not a movie buff it's a take on the famous 'Cary
Grant chased by a crop-dusting plane' scene from Alfred Hitchcock's
classic film North By North-West. Above right is
the cover of the J Church 7" - so they've technically had two
split singles with Fluf.
