This is the band's rarest release - and the most valuable,
due to two Beck tracks which appear under a (not exactly mysterious)
pseudonym. Only 100 copies were ever pressed back in the mid-'90s.
The Creep Is Back is one of only two J Church songs
that have never appeared on a CDEP or one of the singles collections,
the other being Back To Hawaii. The single was
the last of a series of fanclub 7"s put out by Lance's label
Honey Bear. Others in the series featured the likes of Wat Tyler,
Mambo Taxi, Unwound, Steelpole Bathtub, The Cinnamon Imperials,
Superchunk and Tsunami.
Phantom Pregnancies were a UK supergroup(?!) featuring Lance's
good friend Sean from Wat Tyler and members of the riot grrl bands
Huggy Bear and Mambo Taxi.
Beck's presence means that on the rare occasions this 7"
appears on Ebay it goes for several hundred dollars, so if you really
want a copy be prepared to dig deep. |
