The only single from the One Mississippi album
was the slow march condemning one of the most pre-eminent Nazi propagandists,
the film-maker whose Triumph Of The Will, documenting
Hitler's Nuremberg Rallies, is a sick classic of the fable of Aryan
superiority. Leni died in 2004 at the age of 101 but despite her
later work in underwater photography and in documenting the Nuba
people of Sudan, she never overcame her pre-WWII infamy. To learn
more, read The Guardian (UK)'s lengthy obituary,
or visit her official
website.
Closing Time In An Early Town was recorded for
One Mississippi but was one of two songs dropped
from the final running order. Harvest is a cover
of the Neil Young song, though you probably wouldn't recognise it.
It's one of Lance's 'bedroom four-track recordings', with distorted
vocals in the vein of Birthday and Sea
Of Pearls, and a 'rhythm section' which is a sample of
the sound of the pump in an artificial respirator.
Copies of this single are still available through the website.
