Yes, that really is the title. Craig was the drummer in the
Long Island, NY, band Contra and this one-sided 7" was a split
release his band organised with J Church as a surprise birthday
present. Here's the great story from the insert (thanks to Jimmy
for typing this up):
"This scheme was hatched a few months before Craig's year
2000 birthday. His 20th if you've been counting. The idea was for
kids involved in the Long Island scene to give back to this dude
who's given us so much of himself over the past few years. So we
knew J-Church was one of his favorites. How about a surprise split
7" with Craig's band Contra? It was too perfect. After a few
e-mails back and forth with Lance from J-Church, the deal was sealed.
Through a lame trick on the Traffic Violation internet message board,
we tricked Craig into telling us his favorite J-Church song. Nostalgic
For Nothing. Perfect. A bunch of us chipped in and had
this fucker pressed up in just in time for a few months after his
birthday. The whole thing went down without Craig catching on. Thanks
for everything, man. Surprise! Happy Birthday."
As you might have guessed, it's the original version of the J Church
song, while the Contra track can additionally be found on their
split CD with Splurge, also released on Traffic Violation. The picture
on the front is just a photocopy glued to a piece of folded paper
so there are a few different coloured backgrounds around. There's
not much chance of you finding this unless you were in the Long
Island scene in 2000, but some copies have been spotted further
afield.
