According to Newsletter
10, although this single came out almost two years after One
Mississippi was recorded, the songs are apparently quite
old. No doubt the tracklist of the fifth singles collection starts
here. Fuck School is a fast, garage-y, minute-long
rant. Asphyxia By Submersion is a spoken-word piece
over an almost avant-garde soundtrack, about the mysterious death
(suicide? murder?) of jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler (that's him
on the cover) in 1970. A very atypical J Church release. Asphyxia...
was supposed to be on a Beat Bedsit compilation CD which
came out in mid-2001 but it was held over for this single instead.
The best
melodic punk band in Britain form the other half of this release.
Head Held High is from their Versus Everything
album and continues the band's regular theme of rising above small-town
conservatism, while the last song is an exclusive track about the
end of a relationship. |
